Membership Eligibility 

  • A formerly-incarcerated or otherwise directly impacted woman of color (including transgender and gender non-conforming women)*

  • Willing to give personal testimony and speak out publicly about your experiences

  • A desire to grow and better one self

  • Able to attend monthly membership meetings virtually (through phone or Zoom)

  • Dedicated to the empowerment and collective healing of our communities and the transformation of harmful policies that continue to endanger our communities?

Membership is open to all women, but Women on the Rise centers and prioritizes the leadership of women who are from the African diaspora. We are trans-inclusive.

How to become a Member?

  • Fill out and submit our online Membership Form

  • Read and agree to the Mission, Vision, & Affirmations of Women on the Rise

  • Agree to show up in appropriate attire & demonstrate polite conduct, behavior and demeanor

  • Attend a 1on1 meeting with a Women on the Rise staff member within the first month of signing up to become a member (over the phone or in-person)

  • Agree to attend at least 6 monthly meetings per year

  • Receive FREE Women on the Rise merchandise

  • Receive periodic emails just for members about upcoming events, opportunities, and organizational & campaign updates

  • Have the opportunity to tell your powerful story to lawmakers to enact change

  • Be able to access free political education trainings (including occasional travel opportunities)

  • Get connected to a national movement and community of formerly-incarcerated people, advocates, & organizers

  • Have access to an advocacy team who will support you in finding resources to meet your immediate needs
