Women on the Rise Launches #VOTEATL 2021

Registering Formerly-Incarcerated Folks to Vote & Building Power at the Polls!

All eyes are again on Georgia as we prep for the November elections.

Women on the Rise is ready and excited to launch #VOTEATL 2021; an updated relaunch of #Free2Vote , a media campaign to ensure formerly-incarcerated people know their rights at the polls. We will be canvassing to register people to vote by October 4th, partnering with local artists to make billboards and posters to ensure people know their voter eligibility, and getting the word out through radio PSA's, and social media. There will even be a mobile billboard traveling through the city this every Tuesday and Thursday of September starting on the 7th, possibly headed to your neighborhood!

Decades of Southern organizing got us to this moment in Georgia, including powerful grassroots movement building work in communities of color while up against unprecedented voter suppression. In fact, Black formerly-incarcerated people, including our organizers, have been hitting the streets registering people to vote all year long, even while often ineligible to vote themselves. This just goes to show that although voter disenfranchisement is alive and well in the state of Georgia, it can't stop us from mobilizing the vote.

Today we're also excited to announce new partnerships to continue the work to get formerly-incarcerated folks registered and mobilized. Partnerships with Fair Fight, New Georgia Project, Georgia Justice Project, Formerly-Incarcerated & Convicted People's & Families Movement, and a host of volunteers will ensure that formerly-incarcerated people know their eligibility to cast their ballots and can exercise their power at the polls. Earlier this year we were humbled to have even caught the attention of powerful women in D.C., Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Pramila Jayapal as we forge forward to ensure every vote-- and every voter-- counts as we headed into the runoffs.

September 7th we will be back at it again.
