WHAT WE DO
100 WOMEN RISING
Women on the Rise is building the political power of formerly-incarcerated women in the metro Atlanta area through organizing, basebuilding, leadership development, and civic engagement. Through our membership base we are helping re-enter healthy and whole individuals.
We aim to show up and be a part of the conversation wherever our lives are being discussed, whether it's legislative hearings, city council meetings, or Fulton County commissioner meetings.
Our supportive services build the capacity of formerly-incarcerated women to organize. We do this through case management, membership, bi-monthly therapy sessions, weekly support circles, and referrals to resources for employment or other services.
COMMUNITIES OVER CAGES:
CLOSE THE JAIL ATL CAMPAIGN
Women on the Rise co-founded the Communities Over Cages: Close the Jail ATL campaign in 2017. The campaign fights to close the Atlanta City Detention Center to create a Center for Wellness and Freedom by reallocating $32.5 million dollars to community services.
On August 15, 2022, the Atlanta City Council voted in favor of legislation to lease Atlanta City Detention Center to Fulton County Jail for the next four years, sending the city’s movement for justice backwards.
Despite this major blow to the campaign, we were able to mobilize our members to rally together to provide hours of public comment, stand in solidarity against caging people and illuminate the facts about who is in jail, how they are treated and the legal and fiscal damage this lease creates.
We will continue to fight for the closure of the jail and will keep boots on ground decarcerate our communities.

POWERFUL PARTNERSHIPS & CAMPAIGNS
Women on the Rise partners with other organizations to build our collective power and mobilize for abolitionist reforms to the criminal legal system, from ending excessive fines & fees for probation to supporting efforts to end cash bail to repealing municipal offenses that criminalize the poor and land our people behind bars. We're proud to work with many local, state-wide, and national organizations.
